Jubed Laments Toxic Rivalry, Says Competition in Ghana's Music Industry Is Often Unhealthy

Ghanaian singer Jubed has criticised what he describes as the growing culture of unhealthy competition in the country's music industry, saying the attitude of some established artistes is making it more difficult for emerging talents to thrive. The musician argued that while competition is essential for growth, it should not be used as a tool to intimidate or frustrate others.

Speaking during an interview, Jubed explained that competition should inspire creativity and excellence rather than create unnecessary hostility. According to him, some industry players view upcoming artistes as threats and deliberately create obstacles to maintain their dominance.

He claimed that certain senior musicians often rely on their status to remind younger artistes of the gap between them, instead of offering guidance or support. "Competition is needed, but some are not healthy. People just want to stress you because you're on the same lane as them. They feel they have to show you that they are your seniors," he said.

Jubed also expressed disappointment over the way some collaboration opportunities are handled within the industry. He noted that rather than embracing partnerships that could benefit both parties, a number of established artistes make the process unnecessarily difficult in a bid to reinforce their influence.

According to the singer, such behaviour discourages emerging musicians and limits the spirit of unity that should exist within the entertainment industry. He stressed that collaborations should be driven by creativity and shared success, not by ego or the desire to make younger artistes feel inferior.

Despite his concerns, Jubed maintained that healthy competition remains an important ingredient for the growth of the music industry. He urged artistes to embrace mutual respect and support, insisting that a more collaborative environment would strengthen Ghana's music scene and create greater opportunities for both established and rising talents.
