Adekunle Gold Reveals He Wouldn’t Have Married Simi If She Had AS or SS Genotype
Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has opened up about the role genotype played in his decision to marry his wife, fellow singer Simi.
Speaking on a recent episode of the One54 Podcast, the singer, who has SS genotype, disclosed that knowing Simi’s genotype was one of the first things he considered when their relationship began.
Adekunle Gold explained that he would not have proceeded with the relationship if Simi had either AS or SS genotype, stressing that he was concerned about the possibility of having children affected by sickle cell disease.
According to him, he prioritised knowing her genotype before taking the relationship further because he wanted to avoid putting their future children at risk.
He said he found it important to consider genotype compatibility regardless of how strong the feelings between two people might be.
Adekunle Gold has continued to use his platform to raise awareness about sickle cell and the importance of genotype testing.
The singer and Simi got married in January 2019 and have two children together.
