Hiplife Has Taken Care of My Family for Over 20 Years – Kwaw Kese reveals
Ghanaian rapper Emmanuel Kofi Botwe, known as Kwaw Kese has reaffirmed his strong belief in Hiplife, describing it as a lucrative and life-changing genre that has sustained him and many others in the music industry.
Speaking during an interview at the studios of WatsUp TV on Fan Mix Live, the award-winning musician reflected on his more than two decades in the genre and the impact it has had on his life and career.
According to Kwaw Kese, Hiplife has not only shaped his musical journey but has also provided financial stability for him and his family.
“People like me have believed in Hiplife for over 20 years.
Hiplife has taken care of my family. I have built houses and I still get paid from it up to now, so Hiplife is a lucrative business,” he said.
The rapper also noted that many young people are increasingly showing interest in rap music, which he believes is a positive sign for the growth of the genre.
“A lot of the youth are rapping these days because they love to rap,” he added.
However, Kwaw Kese expressed concern about what he described as a gradual shift away from Ghana’s traditional music roots. He explained that Ghanaian music was historically dominated by Highlife before the emergence of other styles.
“People are getting lost from Ghana music. Ghanaian music used to be Highlife,” he stated.
Kwaw Kese popularly called Abodam also pointed out the growing influence of newer sounds such as Ghanapiano, a fusion of Ghanaian music and the South African Amapiano style, which many artists are now experimenting with.
Despite these changes, Kwaw Kese believes Hiplife remains a powerful and profitable genre that continues to influence Ghana’s music industry while inspiring the next generation of artists.
