Davido Rejects Western Validation in Favor of Authentic African Sounds

In a candid and powerful interview on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi, the Nigerian superstar declared that he has reached a point of total contentment in his career. After a decade of global dominance, including back-to-back Grammy nominations over the last three years and selling out the world's most prestigious arenas, the "Unavailable" hitmaker revealed that his focus has shifted away from international accolades and toward cultural authenticity.

Reflecting on his journey, Davido made it clear that he no longer feels the need to modify his music to suit Western palettes. ''This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena... The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African,'' he stated. For the DMW boss, the upcoming 5ive era isn't about winning a trophy in Los Angeles, it’s about deepening his connection with the continent that raised him.

The South African Connection

A significant portion of the interview focused on Davido's deep-rooted relationship with South Africa. The singer, who has collaborated with numerous Amapiano and House legends, noted that his support in the country is unparalleled. With multiple South African certifications under his belt, Davido credits the region for embracing his sound long before the current global Afrobeats explosion.

In His Own Words: "We Have Done It"

Davido’s message to his fans, and the industry at large is one of self-assurance. He isn't retiring; he's refining. By stepping away from the "Western validation" trap, he is making room for a sound that is "very Davido."

"We have done it, so I am not really looking to really do Western sounds... The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African."Davido
